Peppermint Schnapps

Peppermint Schnapps

We love peppermint schnapps regardless of the season, but there are a few occasions during the year when it truly steals the show. This is especially true during the winter holidays and even on St. Patrick’s Day. We are here to give some fantastic cocktail ideas that are worth trying, regardless of why you are enjoying this minty liqueur. These aren’t the peppermint schnapps recipes from your grandmother, but what if they were? We believe Grandma is amazing.

What is Peppermint Schnapps?

Basically, a strong peppermint-flavored spirit that goes great with chocolate, vodka, and whiskey. Here are six cocktails with peppermint schnapps you want to try in time for the holiday.

Peppermint Pattie

Named after the candy, this drink carries all of the chocolatey mint goodness, but it’s 100% liquor. Be careful with this one, but enjoy it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Vodka
  • 1 ounces Peppermint Schnapps
  • 1/2 ounce white Creme de Cacao

Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. Stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Schnapps

It tastes just as it sounds—your go-to hot chocolate recipe spiked with a shot of peppermint schnapps. Light the fire, put some whipped cream on top, and savor. If you want to make your own hot chocolate, give this a try.

Ingredients:

  • 1-quart milk
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 ounces Peppermint Schnapps (more or less to taste)
  • whipped cream, for serving
  • 6 peppermint stick candy, for serving

In a medium saucepan, warm up one cup of milk over low heat. Stir in chocolate and stir until melted. Turn the heat up to medium and pour in the remaining milk, stirring quickly. Keep it from boiling. Pour into small cups and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a jigger (1 1/2 ounces) of peppermint schnapps. Stir in a peppermint stick.

Vanilla Peppermint Martini

It doesn’t need to be the Christmas season to enjoy a candy cane, does it?

Ingredients:

  • Candy canes (crushed)
  • 2 1/2 ounces vanilla vodka
  • 1 ounce Peppermint Schnapps
  • Lime
  • Fresh mint
  • Ice

Fill a shaker with ice, add the vodka and schnapps, and shake vigorously. After dipping it in crushed candy canes, wet the lip of your martini glass with the lime. (You can always hang a candy cane off the glass’s rim if you don’t want to do this.) After adding schnapps and vodka to the glass, garnish it with a mint sprig.

White Chocolate Peppermint Martini

We love that we found this killer recipe from Betty Crocker. Just don’t let the kids try this one. It’s heavy on the vodka, light on the schnapps, and loaded with goodness.

Ingredients:

  • Marshmallow sundae topping
  • 2 peppermint candies, crushed
  • Ice
  • ¼ cup vanilla vodka
  • 1 tablespoon Peppermint Schnapps
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate liqueur

Dip the rim of a martini glass in crushed peppermint candies, followed by marshmallow topping. Pour some marshmallow topping inside the glass, then pop it in the freezer. Combine the liqueur, schnapps, and vodka in an ice-filled shaker. Shake to combine; then transfer to the ready glass. Add a dash of crushed peppermint.

Lemon Mint

It’s a simple mix with a surprising flavor. Try it in the summer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce Peppermint Schnapps
  • 6 ounces lemonade soda

Mix ingredients together in a tall glass filled ¾ with ice cubes.

Jack Frost Manhattan

It’s a minty take on a true classic.

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey (or your favorite Whiskey)
  • 1 part Peppermint Schnapps
  • 1/4 part Sweet Vermouth

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice—and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with cherry.
