Air Fry Hot Dogs – This is such a simple, delicious, and easy dinner meal that I can’t wait to share with you. It’s also really inexpensive. You can make a few at once, which makes them perfect for family get-togethers. It’s super tasty and you can never go wrong with the meaty flavor that goes perfectly with any side. What other benefits can air-frying hot dogs offer?

After cooking, you don’t have to struggle with grimy cleanup! If you’re an air fryer like me, these useful parchment liners not only make cleanup a breeze but also shield the bowl liner from the basket feet.

Air Fry Hot Dogs

The condiments elevate the air fryer hot dog experience, and I adore the tactile contrast between the hotdog and the toasted bread. These hot dogs go great with my non-alcoholic Hibiscus Iced Tea or my Tropical Mermaid drink for the ultimate dining experience!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR CRISPY DOGS

This recipe is so affordable and versatile that I can always add extra toppings to suit my tastes. That’s what I love most about it.

  • Hot dogs – I used turkey hot dogs, but you can use any type you like. A blend of pork and beef, or your classic all-beef ballpark franks work great as well.
  • Hot Dog Buns – Fresh is best, I always say. Purchase the freshest hot dog buns you can. It makes all the difference in the world, and when you toast them up, oh my goodness – they’re divine!
  • Melted butter – This is for basting the wiener as it’s air frying. It adds a little extra yummy flavor, especially with the additional seasonings.
  • Garlic Powder – Mixed into the melted butter, the flavor takes the hot dog to a whole new level. You can use diced garlic if you prefer, just watch as you air fry so the garlic doesn’t burn.
  • Desired Condiments – I prefer just mustard on my hot dogs, but the sky is the limit here. Some ideas could be the classic ketchup and relish. Or you can add sauerkraut, cheese, pickled jalapenos, or even chili and make an air fryer chili dog! yum!!

HOW TO AIR FRY HOTDOGS

So, here’s how to make them:

  1. Preheat the air fryer for five minutes before cooking.
  2. Make diagonal cuts, about a ¼ way into the hotdog.
  3. Turn and make more cuts going the opposite diagonal way down into the hot dog, forming a diamon patter. This helps air fry faster and makes a pretty pattern that gives more surface area for the condiments to flavor.
  4. Brush seasoned, melted butter over the hotdog as it air fries to add extra flavor and crispiness.
  5. When done, take out hot dogs and put them in cut buns.
  6. Air fry for a few minutes to toast the buns. Make sure to keep watch so it won’t burn.

And that’s it! Check out the full recipe below.

CAN I AIR FRY MORE HOT DOGS THAN TWO AT A TIME?

Yes, absolutely. You can lay as many as will fit in the air fryer basket. Ideally, you want to spread them out on a single layer, or as a double layer.

If your dogs are double-layered, you should take a moment to manually turn them or shake the air fryer basket to ensure that each dog is air-fried evenly.

WHAT CAN I PUT ON THE FRIED HOT DOG?

With the help of condiments and garnishes, you can up your serving game. Serve this tasty snack with chili, sauerkraut, and sliced onion. Actually, it goes really well with my recipe for Instant Pot Campfire Chili. In addition, you may top it with crushed potato chips, prepackaged nacho cheese sauce, or even your own homemade cheese sauce. I suggest serving it with slices of American cheese.

WHAT CAN I SERVE AS A SIDE?

Which side dish is your favorite? These air fryer hotdogs most likely will accompany them. Try serving them with my equally wonderful Zesty Cheese Dorito Mac and Cheese, Air Fryer Zucchini Sticks, and Slow Cooker Pineapple Baked Beans if you’re stuck for ideas.

CAN I AIR FRY HOT DOGS FROM FROZEN?

You certainly can. Since the dogs are frozen and scoring them will be extremely challenging, you will probably have to give up on scoring them.

They should also be cooked for a little longer, at a lower temperature. The recipe card below will include instructions for cooking hot dogs that have been frozen.

It’s easy to learn how to air fry hot dogs. This is a photo of an air fried hot dog sitting in a toasted bun with mustard over the top, sitting on a white plate.

STORING AND REHEATING

Refrigerator:    You can put this on the fridge for up to 5 days but keep the buns and air fryer hot dogs separate.

Reheating: You can reheat these hot dogs in the microwave for a few minutes or back in the air fryer. Just make sure not to put the buns back in the air fryer to reheat as they may burn.

  • Air-frying hot dogs typically take less than five minutes, making it faster than grilling or boiling.
  • The air fryer circulates hot air around the hot dog, resulting in a crisp outside and juicy inside.
  • Throw in a bun for the last two minutes of cooking to make it warm and toasty.

Cooking hot dogs in an air fryer is among the simplest methods available. Fleming likes to keep her hot dogs whole so they stay extra juicy, even though some recipes ask for piercing or making slices in them before cooking. She suggests creating a few tiny, shallow slits in the hot dog before cooking it if you’re worried about bubbles forming.

  1. Preheat the air fryer. If you have a few minutes to spare, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit according to the manual. This step is optional, so you can skip preheating if you’re short on time.
  2. Add the hot dogs. Place the hot dogs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You can cook just one or several at once, as long as they will fit in a single layer in the air fryer with space between each one for the hot air to circulate.
  3. Set the temperature and time and begin cooking. Program the air fryer to cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for four minutes.
  4. Add the bun. Once the four minutes are up, Fleming likes to place the cooked hot dog into a bun and put it back into the air fryer for two minutes. “This way you end up with a juicy hot dog inside a crispy bun,” says Fleming.
  5. Add toppings and serve. If you like a cheesy dog, you can add the cheese and air fry for another 30 seconds to a minute, until melted.

Variations for Air Fry Hot Dogs

From creative toppings to pigs in a blanket, there are plenty of fun ways to serve air fryer hot dogs.

  • Bacon-wrapped hot dogs: When Fleming wants to take hot dogs up a notch, she adds bacon. Before air frying, wrap the hot dog in bacon, securing each end with a toothpick. Air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, or until crispy and warmed through. Use classic toppings like ketchup and mustard or top with Tex-Mex-inspired toppings like guacamole, sour cream, pickled onions, and hot sauce.
  • Chili cheese dogs: For a classic chili cheese dog, air fry the hot dog using the instructions above (four minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Add it to a bun and top with chili followed by shredded cheese. Place back in the air fryer and cook at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for three to five minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted.
  • Pigs in a Blanket: You can also use the air fryer to make pastry-wrapped hot dogs, also known as pigs in a blanket. Fleming likes to use cocktail wieners for appetizer-sized pigs in a blanket, but regular hot dogs can be used as well. If you’re using standard hot dogs, cut them into thirds. Use sections of canned crescent roll dough to wrap cocktail wieners or the pieces of hot dog. Air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for five to eight minutes, depending on the size of the hot dog, until the pastry is puffed and browned.
